Before you start segmenting customer data you require a certain level of knowledge about your customers. Most marketers add new fields at random, without adding it for a specific purpose.

    This is mark from webmailinglists.com. Yes you are right, usually we will collate the data in general or based on the category. But when it comes to customer requirement it should be deeper category. So we should have the knowledge before supporting & sending the data to client. Based on client requirement we have to sort out the list.
